Sharing a conversation

Sending a colleague a link to a conversation, and deciding who can open it.

Sometimes the useful thing is not the answer, it is the whole conversation: the question you asked, the corrections you made, the reasoning. Sharing sends all of it.

Choose who can open it

Organization means members of your organisation only. They have to be signed in to Asteria Cloud, and if they are not in your organisation the link will not work for them.

Everyone means anyone with the link, signed in or not. Treat this as publishing. Anyone the link reaches can read the whole conversation, including the contents of any file you attached.

Set an expiry

1 day, 7 days, 30 days or Never. Pick the shortest that does the job. "Never" is a link that outlives the reason you made it.

Send it however you like.

What the recipient gets

Opening a share link puts a copy of the conversation in the recipient's own chat list. They can read everything and carry on from where you left off.

Their copy is theirs. Anything they ask afterwards happens in their copy and you never see it, and nothing they do changes your original. Equally, if you continue your conversation after sharing, their copy does not update.

This is a snapshot, not a shared document. If you and a colleague need to work on the same thing together over time, a shared workspace is the right tool.

Before you share anything with Everyone

The whole conversation goes, including files you attached and anything you pasted in. Read back through it first. This is the most common way confidential material leaves an organisation by accident.

If your administrator has turned public sharing off for your organisation, you will only see the Organization option. That is deliberate and they can explain the policy.

There is no revoke button today. To stop a link working, delete the conversation, which breaks every link to it.

Copies people already took stay in their accounts. A link is not a leash: sharing is best treated as irreversible, which is the real argument for a short expiry.

When it does not work

  • "This share link has expired." Make a new one.
  • "This conversation is only shared with organization members." The recipient is outside your organisation and you used the Organization option.
  • "This share link is invalid or no longer exists." The conversation was deleted.
  • You cannot share a temporary conversation. Keep it first.
