Working with answers
Copy, regenerate, branch, edit, quote, and what all that activity on screen means.
While it is working
You do not get a spinner. You get a running account of what Asteria is actually doing: reading your documents, searching the web, running numbers, drafting a document. Click the steps line to expand it and see each one.
Read it. It is your early warning system. If it says it is searching the wrong collection or reading a sheet you did not intend, hit stop and correct it rather than waiting for the answer.
When Asteria used the web or your documents, a sources list appears with the answer. Open the sources for anything that matters.
Actions on an answer
Hover over a reply and you get:
Copy. The whole answer to your clipboard, formatting included.
Regenerate. Throws away that answer and produces another from the same question. Worth one try if the answer missed the point; if the second is no better, the problem is the question, not the luck of the draw. Rewrite the question instead.
Branch. Copies the conversation up to that point into a brand new one, leaving the original untouched. Use it when you want to try a different direction without losing a thread you might need. "Same analysis but for Germany only" is a branch, not a new chat: the branch still has your files and your context.
Actions on your own messages
Edit. Reopens your message so you can change the wording or swap the attachments, then Save and Submit.
Editing a message deletes everything after it. The conversation continues from your edited message as though the rest never happened. If there is an answer further down you want to keep, copy it out first.
Copy and Regenerate work here too. Regenerating from your own message redoes the reply to that message and drops what came after.
Quoting a specific bit
Select any text in an answer and a Reply with quote button appears. Click it and the selection drops into the message box as a quote, so your follow-up is unambiguous.
This is the cleanest way to say "this paragraph, specifically, is wrong", and it works in an agent's scheduled outputs thread too, where you cannot reply directly: select the interesting part and forward it into a normal chat.
Charts, tables and files
Tables appear inline.
Charts are drawn from your data and are interactive. Ask for a different cut ("same chart but stacked by region") rather than redoing it yourself.
Documents, decks, spreadsheets and diagrams do not appear in the chat. They open in the Workshop panel on the right, where they can be edited, revised and downloaded.
When something goes wrong
"Fallback model used." Your chosen model was briefly unavailable and Asteria used a backup. Nothing to do.
"Reconnecting." The connection dropped and it is retrying. If it gives up, there is a Try again button and your message is not lost.
"Your organisation has run out of credits." Chatting stops until an administrator tops up. Only they can fix this.
"Asteria is replying in another conversation." You have a reply arriving somewhere else, usually a scheduled agent run finishing. Click Open to go to it.
